Heidi Ewing is a renowned documentary filmmaker exploring topics ranging from religion to media to celebrity. Her most recent project, Endangered (co-directed with frequent collaborator Rachel Grady) debuted on HBO in 2022 and chronicles the rising threats to journalism in democratic nations around the world; it has received universal acclaim from critics.

Heidi’s previous work includes the Academy Award-nominated documentary Jesus Camp, which infiltrates the evangelical Christian community; Detropia, which bears witness to Detroit’s economic decline; and One of Us, which follows three ex-members of Brooklyn’s Hasidic Jewish community. Heidi’s narrative directorial debut, I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo), is a Spanish-language romantic drama which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, where it received both the NEXT Innovator and Audience Awards. The film appeared on several “best of” lists in both 2020 and 2021 including from The Washington Post, The Hollywood Reporter, and Rolling Stone.

Heidi is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. She also co-owns the Brooklyn-based production company Loki Films.
